To Whom It May Concern:
I have completed my portfolio and posted it online. Whenever possible, I saved my work as web pages rather than documents. I have included the activities that I have used with my second grade students over the past two school years. Each activity effectively integrates technology into the curriculum. There are examples of activities that incorporate Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel, and Power Point, as well as other programs, such as Inspiration. There are also activities that incorporate the use of the Internet and a Webquest that I have created. I have included brief descriptions of each activity, as well as student samples. The PowerPoint presentations are very involved and include many graphics and sounds. I tried saving them as web pages but, when I did, everything did not remain the same as in the presentation so, the results of the presentation changed. Because of this, I had to keep them as PowerPoint shows causing the download times to be lengthy. I have included a message where each is presented mentioning that if someone uses a dial-up system to connect to the Internet, downloading the presentations may take longer than expected. This is definitely true for the Flat Stanley presentation. I also find it better to view the portfolio using the browser rather than through AOL or any other ISP.
My school has been trying over the several years to become more technology based. Some things have come into place. We are connected to the Internet via DSL and we have purchased some new computers. We have also set up a Computer Lab (with donated MAC’s.) We have placed computers in the classrooms and hope to have them connected to the Internet. We have come a long way but still have a long way to go.
My participation in the CIT program at Framingham State College has taught me many things in dealing with technology. Our school does not currently have a technology teacher but this is something that I see as a definite need. I have worked with my principal and the parent volunteers to help our school to change.
Please find that the outline of field hours link will bring you to the outline of my 75 field hours. I have sorted the activities by subject area. Each subject link on the homepage will bring you directly to a list of activities and the rationales for each. Then, the activity links will bring you to the actual unit outline or student sample. Thank you for your time.
